Achterkirch, Ruth 93 of Cokato

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM also at the funeral home.

Ruth Harriet Achterkirch was born on June 23, 1918 to Peter and Georgia Faith
(Millard) Christensen, at Aitkin, Minnesota.  She grew up in Nashwak, then South
Superior, and graduated from Aitkin
High School in 1936.  She went on to Normal Teachers training in
Brainerd and taught in White Elk, Aitkin, and Pine
City.

 

Ruth married Herbert Achterkirch on December 25, 1941 at her parents home.  They were married by Reverend Earnest
Leadbetter and make their first home in Pine
City, then Floodwood and moved to Cokato
in 1956.

 

Ruth was secretary for her husband’s business and also
worked at Green Giant.  She enjoyed
sewing and knitting, reading, and playing board games.  She was also the family historian.

 

Ruth passed away at the Buffalo
Hospital on August 26, 2011.  She had reached the age of 93 years 2 months
and 3 days,

 

She is survived by, sons, Peter (Lauren) of Wadena and
Stephen of Glencoe;  grandchildren, Lisa
(Pat Delcourt) Uselman of Spring Lake Park with her 3 children Mikaela, Matthew
and Zachary,  Allison (Chris Lundsford)
Achterkirch of Minneapolis and her son Novi; nieces, nephews other relatives
and friends.

 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Georgia
Faith; husband Herbert, and sister Marjory Piller.
