Barbara Eloise Reed, age 86, of Cokato, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2022, at Lakeside Generations in Dassel, Minnesota.
Memorial Service: 2PM Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Stockholm Lutheran Church of Cokato.
Visitation: 1 hour prior to service at church
Interment: Arvilla Cemetery
Barbara was born on June 24, 1935 in Litchfield to Lloyd and Elvira Anderson. She was the eldest of two daughters and grew up on the family farm on Star Lake. Barbara was baptized and confirmed at Beckville Lutheran Church. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1953.
Barbara met Roy Kermit Reed and they were married at the Anderson home farm on March 12, 1954 in the midst of a blizzard and left the next day for Olympia, Washington, where Roy was stationed with the U.S. Army. They had three sons David, Timothy, Kevin. They lived in many areas, Olympia, Washington, St. Paul, MN, Litchfield, Dassel, and Cokato. They were married 44 years until Roy’s death on May 17, 1998.
Barbara cooked at the Dassel Bowling Alley and after that worked as a cook in school kitchens — Glencoe, Hutchinson, Waverly — and took great pleasure in preparing food for her family and for others. She also enjoyed gardening and had an extensive vegetable garden. Barbara was a faithful and very active member of Stockholm Lutheran Church. She was fond of animals, and had various dogs and cats through the years and was especially fond of her most recent cat, Tiny.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Elvira, her husband Roy, and her son David.
She is survived by her sister Norma (Richard) Marquardt, her sons Timothy and Kevin, grandchildren April, Jarrid, Amanda, Megan, Kasey, Kayla, Brandon and Marissa, and by numerous great-grandchildren. Also, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
