Jerry Glen Tyson was born and raised in Meeks, GA, the
youngest of the seven children of David
Zachariah and Viola Tyson. He was united
in marriage to Dolores Della Yager on July
23, 1951. Their
62 years together were blessed with the birth of three children.
Jerry served his country with the United States Air Force
(USAF) during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954.
His tour of duty included an assignment in France from
January, 1952, to August, 1954 where Dolores joined him in 1952. In 1954, Jerry began working for Prudential
Insurance Company in Minneapolis. After 33 years he retired from Prudential but
he continued working part-time with until 1991.
After moving to Howard Lake in
1987, Jerry served twelve years as a volunteer tax preparer for senior citizens
of Wright County under
the sponsorship of AARP and the IRS. He became a member of the St. James Lutheran
Church, Howard Lake, MN in October 1996.
Family was very important to Jerry. Summer vacations often involved camping as a
family and traveling to Georgia to
visit family. After the children were
grown, Jerry and Dolores traveled to Israel and
throughout Europe on two
occasions. Jerry has been a dog lover
over the years. He has owned a number of
Golden Retrievers. His dog Barney even
visited him in the nursing home and crawled up in bed with him. He refurbished bicycles, tinkered with autos
and lawn tractors, lent Dolores a hand with the
gardening, and kept the farmstead running along smoothly. He was always up for a game of pinochle or dominos
with family and friends.
Jerry was called to his eternal rest at the age 83 years and
4 months. He was preceded in death by
his parents, his brothers and his sisters.
Jerry is survived by his wife Dolores of Howard Lake, two daughters,
