Arlien, Osborne Jay 85

Osborn Jay Arlien, 85 of Howard Lake passed away on 3/3/2012 at Good Samaritan Home of Howard Lake.

visitation 4-7 PM Thursday 3/8/2012 at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.

Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery

Age 85 of Howard Lake.  A man of many talents:  Farmer, hunter, water witch, scholar,
soldier, teacher, sky diver, salesman, manager entrepreneur, private pilot,
investor, administrator, auditor, public servant, husband, father, and grandfather.

He was born in Tokio, ND
and grew up near Pekin and Pleasant
Lake.  He attended Rugby
High school, graduating
valedictorian.  Ozzie served in the US
Army during WWII (Airborne) and participated in atomic testing in Nevada.  He was a member of the North Dakota National
Guard and 164th Infantry.
Ozzie was recalled for the Korean Conflict and later served in the 47th
Div. MN National Guard until his retirement at the rank of major.  He graduated from NDSU with a degree in Ag
Economics.  He became National FFA
Vice-President, the first national officer from ND;  He taught agriculture in Elgin
and Rolla, ND.

Ozzie became a salesman and General Manager for Farm Bureau
Service Co. before forming his own company, AM Chemical.  He built plants in Dassel, Winthrop, and
Truman.  He was an executive with several
plant food companies until settling on a farm near Howard
Lake raising registered Angus.  Ozzie served Wright
County as executive secretary, Administrator,
Auditor/Treasurer and Commissioner until his retirement in 1993.  He continued to farm near Howard
Lake.  He was an avid hunter and marksman and loved
target shooting with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ruth
Arlien, brother Raymond, sister-in-law Delores, and wife Dara.  He is survived by daughter Linda (Lennis),
and son Cort (Louise), grandchildren Sarah, Eric, and Matthew;  nephew John and nieces Karen and Donna.
