Harloff, Donald Henry 87, of Cokato, passed away 12/15/2015 at VA Hospital in St. Cloud. Survived by wife Amy of Cokato, and children Brenda (Mark)Morgan of Dallas, TX, Terry Harloff of Imperial Beach, CA. Tom (Lisa) Harloff of Duluth. Grand daughters Melissa Morgan and Abby Harloff and Sister Marie (Larry) Obermoller. Visitation: 4-7 PM Sunday, 12/20/2015 At Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake. Prayer service 6 PM. Interment: Ft. Snelling National Cemetery 10:15 AM Monday, 12/21/2015.
Donald Henry Harloff was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 15, 1928, to Albin and Erna (Braun) Harloff. He grew up in Waconia, and graduated from Waconia High School in 1946. Upon graduation Donald enlisted in the United States Army. He served first in Japan as a recon agent with the 271st field artillery battalion, receiving the Army of occupation medal, and the World War II victory medal. Donald was honorably discharged in 1947. He reenlisted in1950 and served in Korea with the Fifth Army, field artillery and received the Korean Service Medal and Bronze Service Star. He was once again Honorably Discharged on July 26, 1951.
In September of 1950 while still in the service Donald married Amy Jacobson, at Spring Park, Minnesota. Once out of military service the couple made their home in Excelsior. Donald worked for Kemps Marigold Foods as an auditor and accountant. The family was transferred to Rochester where they made their home until 1965 when they moved to Wayzata. Donald then worked for The Department of Defense, and later Blue Cross. In 1990 they retired to the farm in Cokato.
Donald enjoyed time spent at “the cabin” in Lutsen, Minnesota. He liked to hunt and fish and be “up North”. He also enjoyed horses, wine making and driving school bus for Holt Motors.
