Iona H. Johnson passed away at Cokato Manor on June 13, 2016.
Funeral Service: 2 PM Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Stockholm Lutheran Church, South of Cokato
Visitation: 5-8 PM Wednesday, at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato and 1 hr prior to service at church on Thursday
Prayer Service: 7 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home
Interment: Stockholm Lutheran Cemetery
Iona Hazel Hanson Stevens Johnson of Cokato, MN went to her heavenly home on June 13, 2016. She was born Feb 13, 1913 in Boyd, MN to Bennie and Minnie (Paulson) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN.
Iona was united in marriage to Oscar Stevens June 24, 1934. To this union, a son was born. Oscar passed away in 1941.
Iona moved to Cokato and worked as a clerk in her father’s grocery store in Stockholm, MN where she met and later married her second husband, Clinton Johnson, on March 11, 1944. To this union, four children were born.
Iona was a self-described homemaker and farmer’s wife. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening, quilting, watching crops grow and studying God’s word. She lived her life in humble service to Christ lovingly caring for her family, friends and those in need.
Iona is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) Stevens of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Diane Dodge of Dassel, MN; Dennis (Deborah) Johnson of Cokato, MN; Beatrice (Michael) Jones of White Bear Lake, MN; and son-in-law, Edward Finnegan of Minneota, MN; 10 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren
Iona was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Stevens and husband, Clinton Johnson, her parents Bennie and Minnie Hanson, daughter Ronette Finnegan and son-in-law, Dale Dodge.
Her family knows that all who met her loved her dearly and share in our loss. We rejoice in the legacy of the blessings she left us as a faithful servant and messenger of God.
