Lindahl, Irene M. 100

Irene Lindahl was surrounded by her family at the Cokato Manor Nursing Home on February 28, 2013 when she went to be with the Lord, having reached the age of 100 years, 9 months and 14 days.

Irene Minnie Johanna (Luhman) Lindahl was born May 14, 1912, at Howard Lake, Minnesota to Albert and Emily (nee Streich) Luhman. She was baptized June 16, 1912 by Reverend A.L. Oetjen at St. James Lutheran Church at Howard Lake.  She attended St. James Lutheran School and was confirmed on May 30, 1926, by Reverend C.G. Seltz.  He chose her confirmation verse of Psalm 27:4, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.”  Irene requested this to be her funeral sermon text.

On Sunday, June 13, 1937, Irene was united in marriage to Carl B. Lindahl at St. James Church by Reverend C.G. Seltz.  Their wedding verse was Matthew 3:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” They farmed southwest of Howard Lake until 1952 when they sold the farm and moved into Howard Lake.  For many years Irene assisted her husband as custodian and caretaker for St. James Lutheran Church, School and Cemetery until 1972.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening and quilting.  Before she was married, she also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.  Her life centered around her church, home and relatives.

On July 7, 1984, her husband passed away.  In September of 1994, she moved from her house into the Towering Pines Apartments in Howard Lake.  In May of 2005, she entered the Cokato Manor Nursing Home.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; two brothers, Alfred and Bernard Luhman; three sisters, Edna Janneke, Leona Bakeberg and Orella Schmieg.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A celebration of Irene’s life will take place on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 2:00pm with visitation 1 hour prior to the service, all at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
