Norberg, Victoria “Vicki” A. 95

 

Norberg, Victoria “Vicki”, age 95, of Cokato, formerly of Minneapolis, passed away on December 30, 2012 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Victoria Alice Norberg was born July 24, 1917 in Cokato, MN to Victor and Selma (Peterson) Norberg. She grew up on the family farm at Knapp and graduated from Cokato High School in 1935.She attended one year at Minnesota School of Business and then returned to Cokato to take care of an elderly aunt. Vicki graduated from St. Andrew’s Hospital Nursing Program in Minneapolis in 1943. Her nursing career included: at St. Andrew’s after graduation for a few years; in Cokato for a short while; in Denver from 1946-1950; working private duty for Red Cross including going to New Mexico during the Polio Epidemic; continued private duty in 1951 at New Orleans for 6 months; and later in 1951 moved to Minneapolis where she did private duty for four years at various hospitals including doing post-anesthesia recovery nursing which was a new concept and taking care of very critical patient before the ICU model had originated; as well as taking care of iron lung patients. In 1955 Vicki started her career at the University of Minnesota Hospital in PAR (post anesthesia recovery) and in 1966 she became the head nurse there, retiring in 1980. Vicki maintained her own home in SE Minneapolis until 2010 at which time she moved to Edgewood Gables in Cokato. She had a
passion for travel, gardening, and loved reading the daily paper to be current on news and events. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making krumkake. Vicki was a lifelong member of North Crow Lutheran church at Knapp and a long time member of the Swedish Institute.

Vicki is survived by her sister-in-law, Luella Norberg; her two nieces: Lynnette (Gordy) Blem and Kathryn (Mike) Miller; her two nephews: Peter (Lori) Norberg and Mark (Vinita) Norberg; her 11 great-nieces and great-nephews: Adam (Natalie) Miller, Isaac Miller (s.f. Jaime), Molly (Shaun) Uecker, Amy (Vlad) Barnes, Anna Blem, Aaron Blem, Dani Norberg, Andrew Norberg, Melissa Norberg, Megan Norberg, and Victor Norberg, along with great-great-nephews and niece, Aric, Simon, Will, and Irene. Vicki was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Wendell, Karl and Gordon; and an infant sister Marian.

Funeral service: Thur. 1/3, 11:00 am at North Crow River Luth. Church of Cokato. Visitation: Wed. 1/2, 5-7 pm, 6:30 prayer, at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato and 1 hr prior to service at church.
