Alice Vera Hazel Traxler, age 102, passed way January 10, 2013 at the Cokato Manor. She was born on a farm in rural Menomonie, WI. to Anna (Kuester) Meier and Carl Meier on Dec 30th 1910. Alice worked as a nurse’s aid at Menomonie Memorial Hospital and married Leonard Traxler in May of 1935. They farmed in the rural Menomonie area and raised four children. She attended Peace Lutheran church in Menomonie, WI where she and her late husband Leonard were members from 1935 on. Alice was active in the Ladies Aid and church circle. In 1983 they moved from the home farm to Cokato, MN where they were caretakers of the Cokato Senior apartments. Alice and Leonard retired from that and moved to Brainerd, MN and then to Park Rapids, MN. After Leonard’s death, Alice moved back to Cokato and lived at Cokato Manor until her passing. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1998, her parents, three brothers Alfred, Arthur and Walter, and six sisters; Lucy, Elsie, Irene, Selma, Edna and Ida, and one great-grandson, Leslie. She is survived by her four children Phyllis (Norman) Skottegard, of Park Rapids,MN., David (Susan) Traxler of Park Rapids, MN, Keith (Karen) Traxler of Chaska,MN and Joyce (Dale) Gage of Cokato, MN., fifteen grandchildren; Cheryl, Cindy, Wendy, Karen, Diana, John, Carl, Monica, Holly, Leonard, Aaron, Tony, Jeff, Julie and Becky; twenty-six great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
A time of gathering will take place on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 4-7 pm at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, with a service at 6:30pm.
